Directly east of Komodo and north of Timor-Leste, the Alor Archipelago comprises of 20 islands and 17 sub-districts. Although Alor’s popularity isn’t up there with the more well-known Raja Ampat or neighboring Komodo Island the waters around the archipelago offer equally fascinating spectacles – if not better. Nomadic Scuba believe that the lack of popularity is based on the lack of knowledge as Alor island is truly a well kept gem of a diving location.
There are at least 50 dive spots stretching from Alor Island to Pantar Island, and several islets around them. Some of the best sites are found along the Pantar Strait. Those who have visited Alor speak of the unbelievably beautiful sites and the aquatic life within. To paraphrase a rather high ranking PADI official friend of ours…”Alor is the best kept secret in the world, don’t tell too many people too quickly!”
Alor has a number of dive operators available and setting the standards and sitting pretty as the highest rated resort is Alami Alor. With the resorts popularity growing exponentially it can be very difficult to get a last minute booking at Alami Alor and as such, Nomadic Scuba plan to book the resort for one week during 2020.
