FAQs

I’ve never done a liveaboard before, what does it mean?

Liveaboard diving entails staying on a boat or ship for some time without returning to land. The advantage of this is that it enables the divers to reach those reefs which may be too far from land to visit by day. You may have seen the saying “Dive, eat, sleep, repeat” in the diving world, this is precisely what you do on a liveaboard.

Do I need to be a high-level diver for Thailand and Myanmar?

No, You can be new to diving and join the Phinsi as an Open Water diver for the trips in Thailand.  However, we would suggest that you have some experience at diving in currents for any of the trips to Myanmar, being qualified as an Advanced diver would also be of benefit for some of the more technical dive sites.

Do they cater to specific diets?

Yes, they do. The MV Taka has exceptional chefs onboard and they deliver food for a variety of dietary requirements given prior notice.

I sometimes struggle to get out of the water in dive gear, can I remove it in the water?

Yes, MV Taka has a specifically designed dive platform at the back of the boat which is at sea level. From here you can transfer onto the tender without equipment and the crew will move it for you before assisting you with putting it on or taking it off.

We are travelling a long way to get there. Is it possible to do more than one trip?

It certainly is. With multiple bookings, we can also offer you a discounted rate. Get in touch and let us know what you would like to do and we will advise on your best options.

Overview continued

As the weather changes and the marine parks close their doors the Phinisi heads to Southern Thailand to continue the great diving opportunities until the marine parks open their doors again in October.  The Phinisi was custom built for divers, with a shaded diving deck, personal set-up and storage areas, as well as nitrox and quality Aqualung equipment available to rent.

Itineraries in Thailand explore the clear blue waters of the Similan & Surin Islands and run from four to ten nights in length.  Dive sites include Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and the world-famous Richelieu Rock. The Phinisi also visits the best of the Myanmar dive sites, including Black Rock, High Rock, Tower Rock and Torres Island.

Topside the Phinisi caters to 18 guests in a choice of cabins to suit different budgets. Each cabin features individually controlled AC, ensuite bathrooms with hot water, bath towels, storage space and lockable safety box. Social areas include a sundeck with loungers, indoor and outdoor dining, 42″ flat-screen TV and a library of books, movies and games. All meals are served buffet style and self-service drinks and snacks are available at an additional charge.

The experienced captain, crew and dive guides of The Phinisi are on hand to help make it a memorable trip.
