Know before you go
How do I get there?
Nearest airport: Alor Island (ARD)
Suggested flights: Wings Air 1942 from Kupang
The sole route to Alor is through Kupang, the capital city of Nusa Tenggara Timur. The flight operated by Wings Air departs in the morning. We would strongly recommend planning your logistics to avoid any afternoon flights as they are regularly rescheduled for the following morning.
Connections to Kupang (KOE): Internationally you will need to connect via Jakarta (CGK) or Bali (DPS)
Here's an easy way to see all the Flight Connections
Alami Alor staff will greet you upon arrival in Alor island airport and escort you to the resort.
Do I need a visa for this trip?
Visa on arrival is available for many countries which costs USD35. However, VoA
also tends to attract significant delays with queues etc.
Nomadic Scuba's advise: To get ahead of the game use the online portal and arrange your visa before you leave home.

What level of dive training do I need for these trips?
Suitable for all levels of diver. In the interest of everyone's safety and your enjoyment, the dive staff will always asses your ability as a diver before taking you to a dive site that may be challenging. They will also let you know what to expect of each site, and any currents you may experience.
Nomadic Scuba's Top Tip: Stick with the dive staff's advice, they know the waters very well and have your interests as their number one priority.
What should we expect from the local climate?
Shoulder Seasons: March-May & October-November
- Lows 25ºC/78ºF
- Highs 34ºC/94ºF
Dry Season: June-September
- Lows 21ºC/70ºF
- Highs 31ºC/91F
Wet Season: December – February
- Alami Alor is closed for the wet season
MONEY - Can I pay by card/ phone on the trip?
The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).
Most established hotels and restaurants accept major credit cards, smaller, family-run places probably will not. There are banks and ATMs with various maximum withdrawal limits and fees throughout Indonesia, however, Alami Resort is remote and there are no banks or ATMs locally.
Nomadic Scuba Top Tip: We use WISE for our transactions, and we save hundreds on pointless fees and exchange rates. If you haven't opened an account yet, we strongly urge you to do so (it takes 5 minutes).

Do I need dive and travel insurance?
Absolutely, without a doubt! Comprehensive travel and diving insurance is essential for planning any scuba diving trip. Many operators require proof of both before allowing you to participate in their activities or use their services here's why.
We recommend DiveAssure for both dive and travel insurance. You can choose between single-trip or annual coverage.
To arrange your insurance now, please use this link -DiveAssure registration.
Are there any medical reasons why I cannot dive?
Operators providing dive services will require you to complete an RSTC medical declaration. Should you need to answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions then you will need a doctor to sign as authorizing you to be medically fit to dive. You can find an example of the RSTC medical questionnaire here.
What are the dive conditions like?
March to April & October to November: Water temperature 25º-26ºC (77º-79ºF)
May to September: Water temperature 30º–31ºC (86º-88ºF)
These are averages and can vary slightly. Upwellings also occur at times which brings nutrient-rich water from depth and a drop in temperature. Temperatures can be as low as 20ºC (68ºF) during these events.
We recommend: It's always worth having the right gear with you so, a 5mm wetsuit if you feel the cold, or a 3mm if you are brave. If the water turns out to be super toasty, at least you have all the bases covered.
Do we need to use dive guides?
Guides are provided free of charge, however, guests are reminded that they are responsible for their dive profiles and must stay within the limits of their certification and follow the local rulings of the dive centre.
Can I extend my stay?
Absolutely! If you’d like to extend your stay, just let us know, and we’ll be happy to arrange a quote for you. Many of our guests enjoy exploring multiple locations within the same trip. If this appeals to you, we’d be delighted to offer some suggestions. Please keep in mind that booking in advance is recommended, especially for popular destinations and peak seasons.
