What level of dive training do I need?
Dive shops offer training for all experience levels and are the primary resource for certification, whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced diver. If you're uncertain or need guidance, feel free to reach out and consult with Matt who always keen to share his knowledge and provide sound advice.
I am not a strong swimmer; can I still learn to dive?
Absolutely! If you're not confident in the water, you can start with our one-day Basic Try Scuba package, which doesn't require strong swimming skills. Once you experience the magic of the underwater world, you can continue your training, and we'll help you improve your swimming ability to become a fully qualified scuba diver.
PADI, SSI, RAID, which one should I do?
Honestly, it doesn’t make much difference until you decide to pursue a professional career in the industry. All major training agencies recognize each other when offering dive services. This means you can dive with a PADI centre even if you’re certified by SSI, RAID, NAUI, CMAS or others. The certification levels are also mutually acknowledged, so an Open Water Diver certification from PADI has the same value as one from SSI. The main difference is in how the courses are structured during training, but they all lead to the same end result, you being able to dive.
Do I need dive and travel insurance for this trip?
Comprehensive travel and diving insurance is essential for planning any scuba diving trip. Many operators require proof of both before allowing you to participate in their activities or use their services here's why. If you are taking part in a training program or course, then the operator may have provision to include dive insurance, however, we would always advise having your own insurance for any adventure.
We recommend DiveAssure for both dive and travel insurance. You can choose between single-trip or annual coverage.

Are there any medical reasons why I cannot dive?
Operators providing dive services will require you to complete an RSTC medical declaration. Should you need to answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions then you will need a doctor to sign as authorizing you to be medically fit to dive. You can find an example of the RSTC medical questionnaire here.
What are the dive conditions like?
Nusa Penida is one of Nomadic Scuba's favourite locations. This large island delivers superb drift diving and a huge array of biodiversity due to the three global currents that converge here. These currents bring super-rich nutrient water that attracts the smaller fish, which in turn attracts the larger species too.
Nov to May - 26° and 28°C
Jun to Oct - 18° to 26°C
Nusa Penida has two distinguishable seasons
The wet season - Dec to Mar
The Dry season - Mar to Nov
Opportunities to see various species of Shark, Mola Mola (or Sun Fish) and Manta Ray's at Manta Point.
As a Fun Diver, what can I expect to see during the dives?
Absolutely, without a doubt! If you are taking part in a scuba diving course then you will have limited insurance cover by the operator. however, having comprehensive travel and diving insurance is a crucial aspect of planning any scuba diving trip and many operators now request proof of both before allowing you to proceed with any activities. Therefore, if you plan on fun diving after your course, or continuing your travels which includes more diving you will need your own insurance.
Here’s why:
1. Medical Emergencies: Scuba diving, while incredibly exhilarating, does carry certain risks. In the unlikely event of a diving-related injury or medical emergency, having insurance that covers hyperbaric chamber treatment or medical evacuation can be a lifesaver.
2. Trip Cancellations or Interruptions: Sometimes unforeseen circumstances force us to cancel or cut short our trips. Travel insurance can cover expenses like non-refundable deposits or flights in case of emergencies or unexpected events.
3. Equipment Loss or Damage: Your dive gear isn’t cheap. Insurance can help cover the costs if your equipment gets lost, stolen, or damaged during your travels.
4. Personal Liability: Accidents can happen, and having liability coverage can protect you financially if you accidentally damage property or cause injury while diving.
5. Travel Assistance Services: Beyond financial coverage, some insurance plans offer travel assistance services, which can be invaluable when navigating a foreign country's healthcare system or dealing with travel-related issues.
Always ensure your insurance policy specifically covers scuba diving-related activities, as not all standard travel insurances include this. It's essential to read the fine print and understand what your policy covers to ensure you're adequately protected during your scuba diving adventures.
We recommend DiveAssure for both dive and travel insurance. You can arrange single trip or annual insurance, if you would like to arrange it now, please use this link - DiveAssure registration.

With three major currents converging, the waters of Nusa Penida are massively nutrient-rich and attract a huge array of biodiversity. With the constant water movement you can enjoy fantastic drift dives over the stunning reefs and there is always a chance of Dolphins, Mantas, Mola Mola, Thresher Sharks and even the odd Hammerhead or Whaleshark. It's ridiculously good!
Nomadic Scuba top tip: If you plan to visit for 6 days, make it 8!
