How do I get there?
Nearest Airport: Sam Ratalungi International Airport Manado (MDC)
Suggested International flight: Silk Air MI274 from Changi International Airport, Singapore (SIN)
Domestic flights are available to and from other Southeast Asia regions with different airlines.
Here's an easy way to see all the Flight Connections
Transfers:
30-40 minutes by car - Manado International Airport to the harbour
30 minutes by boat – Harbour to Bunaken Oasis Resort
All transfers between the airport and resort are free of charge to guests. Inbound guests will be met by staff in the arrivals lounge of the airport.
Nomadic Scuba top tip: When flying within Indonesia, it's best to schedule your flights for early in the day. Based on our experience, flights scheduled later in the day are more prone to delays or baggage being left behind.
Do I need a visa for this trip?
Visa on arrival is available for many countries which costs USD35. However, VoA
also tends to attract significant delays with queues etc.
Nomadic Scuba's advise: To get ahead of the game use the online portal and arrange your visa before you leave home.

What level of dive training do I need for these trips?
Bunaken is suitable for all levels of diver. The dive staff will always let you know what to expect of each site, and any currents you may experience.
What should we expect from the local climate?
- Year-round diving
- April to October - Best dive conditions
- November to late February - Can sometimes be a little windy and more rain
Note: Sulawesi receives rain year-round so it is difficult to suggest a specific time of year to visit.
MONEY - Can I pay by card/ phone on the trip?
The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).
The majority of established hotels and restaurants accept major credit cards, however; smaller, family-run places probably will not. There are banks and ATM's with various maximum withdrawal limits and fees.
TOP TIP: Nomadic Scuba uses WISE for our transactions, and we save hundreds on
pointless fees and exchange rates. If you haven't opened an account yet, we strongly urge you to do so (it takes 5 minutes). Link: Show me how to be WISE
if you need more advice, send us a message as we are always keen to help save
you money.
Do I need dive and travel insurance?
Absolutely, without a doubt! Comprehensive travel and diving insurance is essential for planning any scuba diving trip. Many operators require proof of both before allowing you to participate in their activities or use their services here's why.
We recommend DiveAssure for both dive and travel insurance. You can choose between single-trip or annual coverage.
To arrange your insurance now, please use this link -DiveAssure registration.
Are there any medical reasons why I cannot dive?
Operators providing dive services will require you to complete an RSTC medical declaration. Should you need to answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions then you will need a doctor to sign as authorizing you to be medically fit to dive. You can find an example of the RSTC medical questionnaire here.
What are the dive conditions like?
Water temperature and exposure suits
The water temperature is a relatively warm 27º–29ºC (80º-84ºF)
Lembeh Strait in July / August drops to around 25ºC (77ºF)
Recommended: 3 – 5 mm wetsuit
Do we need to use dive guides?
Yes, Indonesian law, forbids any visitors diving without a local guide or instructor. Guides are provided free of charge, however, guests are reminded that they are responsible for their dive profiles and must stay within the limits of their certification.
Private dive guide – Bunaken's guide ratio is 4:1 but they also understand that you may have specific goals during a dive. As such, you can book a private guide which currently incurs an additional USD 40 per dive.
Can I extend my stay?
Absolutely! If you’d like to extend your stay, just let us know, and we’ll be happy to arrange a quote for you. Many of our guests enjoy exploring multiple locations within the same trip. If this appeals to you, we’d be delighted to offer some suggestions. Please keep in mind that booking in advance is recommended, especially for popular destinations and peak seasons.
