Fuel Surcharges

Fuel is a significant operational cost for any dive operation, especially liveaboards. Due to the volatility in oil prices, influenced by global events like the Russia-Ukraine conflict, predicting fuel costs well in advance of scheduled trips is challenging. Therefore, some operators may impose a fuel surcharge closer to the departure date, but will notify guests in advance. If fuel prices stabilize, no surcharge will be applied.

Additional Costs

Additional costs, including equipment rental, tanks, specialist gases, and tech equipment, are customized based on the duration of the trip. For more details on each itinerary, please follow the link provided above the schedules on this page. All costs are dependent on the length of the trip and are listed in USD.

Know before you go

How do I get there?

The Philippine Siren uses various ports depending on the route of each trip. Please refer to the calendar schedule where you will find a clickable Google Maps link to display the embark and disembark ports.

Following this, use the following link to plan your international flights: Flight Connections

Do I need a visa for this trip?

All travellers to and from the Philippines are required to use the Bureau of Immigration's eTravel portal to register their personal and travel details.

Both the arrival and departure registration need to be completed at least 72 hours prior to flight. Use the portal to obtain a QR code which you must be able to show at the airport.

What level of dive training is needed for these trips?

For Tubbataha routes: 30 logged dives

For all other routes: 10 logged dives

We further advise that you hold a qualification of Advanced Open Water diver or equivalent. Any guests that fall beneath this requirement, or the dive staff feel are not suitably experienced may be excluded from dives throughout the trip. Open Water divers will be restricted to a maximum of 18m and as such, may be excluded from some of the scheduled dives due to depth requirements. For open Water Divers that wish to be able to dive to 30m, a short course is available on board.

What are the dive conditions like?

Climate and Weather

The Philippines is a tropical country with a climate divided into two main seasons: dry and rainy. Temperatures remain fairly consistent throughout the year, with coastal and inland temperatures ranging from 27°-28°C (80°-82°F) to 33°-34°C (91°-93°F), averaging around 31°C (87°F). Evenings tend to be slightly cooler.

Water Temperature and Exposure Suits

Water temperatures are broadly similar throughout the Philippines with averages of around 26°-28°C (79°-82°F) year-round. Most guests find that a 3mm or 5mm wetsuit is suitable for the expected water temperatures. 3 mm shorty wetsuits are available to rent on board. However, we recommend that those who feel the cold easily, especially
with repeated diving, bring a full-length wetsuit and/or an extra rash guard, vest or hood with them.

The dry season lasts from November to May, though light rainfall can still occur during this time. The warmest months are typically from March to May. The rainy season generally starts in early June and can extend through November.

MONEY - Can I pay by card/ phone during the trip?

The local currency in the Philippines is the Philippine Peso (PHP).

Banking and currency exchange facilities are widely available in Cebu and Manila and ATMs are plentiful in most cities and airports the country. Most hotels, resorts, shops, and restaurants accept a wide range of credit and debit cards. However, guests should carry small denominations of Philippine Pesos to cover taxes and any excess baggage fees.

Nomadic Scuba uses WISE for our transactions, and we save hundreds on pointless fees and exchange rates. If you haven't opened an account yet, we strongly urge you to do so (it takes 5 minutes). Link: Show me how to be WISE if you need more advice, send us a message as we are always keen to help save you money.

Do I need dive insurance for this trip?

Absolutely, without a doubt! Comprehensive travel and diving insurance is essential for planning any scuba diving trip. Many operators require proof of both before allowing you to participate in their activities or use their services here's why.

We recommend DiveAssure for both dive and travel insurance. You can choose between single-trip or annual coverage.

To arrange your insurance now, please use this link -DiveAssure registration.

Are there any medical reasons why I cannot dive?

Operators providing dive services will require you to complete an RSTC medical declaration. Should you need to answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions then you will need a doctor to sign as authorizing you to be medically fit to dive. You can find an example of the RSTC medical questionnaire here.

What type of power sockets are on board?

The Philippines uses three associated plug types, A, B and C.

  • plug type A has two flat parallel pins
  • plug type B has two flat parallel pins and a grounding pin
  • plug type C has two round pins.

The Philippines operates on a 220V supply voltage and 60Hz.

Do we need to use a dive guide?

Guides are provided free of charge, however guests are responsible for their own dive profiles and must stay within the limits of their certification.

Can I extend my stay and do more than one trip?

Of course! We have plenty of options available. Simply let us know what you are looking for and we will be happy to provide you with some ideas.
