Taz Diving - A week in the cenotes
Taz Diving - A week in the cenotes
Share
Introduction
We first met Taz during the inaugural underwater photography competition in Aqaba, Jordan, where she assisted Alvero Herrera, who secured 2nd place in the week-long wreck competition. With a zest for life and the characteristic Canadian politeness, Taz is a fantastic ambassador for our sport. She extends this enthusiasm to her online presence, boasting almost 40,000 followers on Instagram. Over the past five years, Taz has dived professionally in countries such as Honduras, Micronesia, Canada, the USA, and Mexico. Her diving journey led her to become a Scuba Instructor, technical deep diver, side-mount diver, cave diver, and licensed cavern guide in Tulum, Mexico. Now, she provides bespoke adventures and exceptional service to divers exploring the magic beneath Tulum. We take immense pleasure in promoting her week-long bespoke trips to the Tulum cenotes.

Know before you go
How do I get there?
Closest International Airport: Tulum International (TQO)
Aeropuerto Internacional de Tulum Felipe Carrillo Puerto is some 20km outside of
Tulum and accessible from numerous International hubs such as Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas Fort Worth, Calgary and Frankfurt.
Do I need a visa for this trip?
To visit Mexico you will need a Tourist Card. However, commercial airlines no
longer issue them. You need to complete the registration online and be
able to present it on arrival.
What level of dive training do I need for this trip?
To attend one of Taz's expeditions you will need to be Advanced Open Water as a minimum.
What are the dive conditions like?
EPIC!! Inside the cenote caverns it can get dark so the water temp drops too, however, it stays constant at 25ºC (77ºF). Depending on how quickly you feel the cold you'll need a 3mm wetty or more. Bear in mind that you will not be going through any scary squeeze holes and the entire experience feels roomy.
MONEY - Can I pay by card/ phone on the trip?
The local currency is the Mexican Pesos (MXN) USD is also widely used.
The majority of established hotels and restaurants accept major credit cards, however; smaller, family-run places probably will not. There are banks and ATM's with various maximum withdrawal limits and fees. We suggest having some pesos and USD in cash using the former first.
Nomadic Scuba Top Tip: We use WISE for our transactions, and we save hundreds on pointless fees and exchange rates. If you haven't opened an account yet, we
strongly urge you to do so (it takes 5 minutes).

Do I need dive and travel insurance?
Absolutely, without a doubt! Comprehensive travel and diving insurance is essential for planning any scuba diving trip. Many operators require proof of both before allowing you to participate in their activities or use their services here's why.
We recommend DiveAssure for both dive and travel insurance. You can choose between single-trip or annual coverage.
To arrange your insurance now, please use this link -DiveAssure registration.
Are there any medical reasons why I cannot dive?
Operators providing dive services will require you to complete an RSTC medical declaration. Should you need to answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions then you will need a doctor to sign as authorizing you to be medically fit to dive. You can find an example of the RSTC medical questionnaire here.

- Hottest Month: August (83 F)
- Coldest Month: January (74 F)

Do we need to use dive guides?
The cenotes are an overhead environment and at times can get completely dark. For safety and route knowledge Taz and her team are your guides who are not only dive professionals but know the cenotes like the back of their hands. You'd be crazy not to follow your guides!
Can I extend my stay?
Of course! If you wish to stay longer simply let us know and we will arrange the quote for you. Some of our guests like to try a couple of adventures in the same trip and if you want to stick with Taz you can check out her other dive services here.
