Nomadic Scuba top tip: Sometimes weather can prevent aircraft from landing or taking off from Tufi International Airport. As such, we recommend planning an overnight stop in Port Moresby on either side of your time at Tufi.
Do I need a visa for this trip?
All visitors to PNG require a visa. Currently, a visa on arrival is not an option, therefore you can apply for a tourist visa online for USD 50.
What level of dive training do I need for this trip?
Diving at Tufi is suitable for all levels of divers. The dive staff will always let you
know what to expect of each site and any currents you may experience.
What is the climate and weather like?
Temperatures never really drop much below 26°C and are generally more in the low to mid 30°s
Dry Season: June to September
Cool Wet Season: October to November
Warm Wet Season: December to May
Nomadic Scuba top tip: From mid-April until October the Trade Winds sometimes prevent the dive boats reaching the outer reefs. We would suggest Nov-March as the best time to visit
MONEY - Can I pay by card/ phone on the trip?
The local currency is the PNG Kina (PGK).
Within Port Moresby, the hotels will accept cards and electronic payments. Tufi Resort also accepts electronic payment however, for local trinkets and purchases within the surrounding villages you will need cash. There are no cash machines at Tufi Resort and you will have limited access to them in Port Moresby.
TOP TIP: Order some PGK in your home country to take with you.
Do I need dive and travel insurance?
Absolutely, without a doubt! Comprehensive travel and diving insurance is essential for planning any scuba diving trip. Many operators require proof of both before allowing you to participate in their activities or use their services here's why.
We recommend DiveAssure for both dive and travel insurance. You can choose between single-trip or annual coverage.
To arrange your insurance now, please use this link -DiveAssure registration.
Are there any medical reasons why I cannot dive?
Operators providing dive services will require you to complete an RSTC medical declaration. Should you need to answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions then you will need a doctor to sign as authorizing you to be medically fit to dive. You can find an example of the RSTC medical questionnaire here.
What are the dive conditions like?
Water temperature and exposure suits
The water temperature is relatively constant year-round- 28º–31ºC (82º-87ºF)
Recommended: Rash vest and shorts or if you get super cold super quick then maybe a 3mm shorty.
Visibility:
Outer Reefs: 20-40m
Fjords: 10-20m
Do we need to use dive guides?
Guides are provided free of charge, however, guests are responsible for their dive profiles and must stay within the limits of their certification.
Private dive guide – You can book a private guide at an additional cost.
Nomadic Scuba top tip: A private guide is unnecessary unless you plan to remain in one spot for the entire dive. The visibility is excellent, and you can be assured that yours will be the only boat in the region, let alone at any specific dive site.
Can I extend my stay?
Of course! If you wish to stay longer simply let us know and we will arrange the quote for you. Some of our guests like to try a couple of locations within the same trip. If this is of interest to you, get in touch today and we can discuss various bespoke options with you.
